This project is located in the area of Palaiochora, in the Chania region. The purpose of this study was to create two residences: one for the owners' use and a smaller one for rental. Both homes would have sufficient outdoor space and coexist harmoniously. They were designed to fully utilize the plot area and take advantage of the surrounding views while maintaining the privacy of each home.
The architectural design consists of clean lines, creating simple rectangular forms. Outdoor spaces are formed around the main structure with pergolas, while keeping the central mass intact, thus offering a solid and cohesive appearance to the construction. The use of stone, limited to the ground floor, further reinforces this, giving the upper level a lighter feel.
At the northern rear part of the plot, extending from east to west and occupying 158 square meters of the plot, is the smaller residence, with a total area of 85 square meters. On the ground floor of 55 square meters, there are living spaces and a bedroom with its own outdoor area at the back of the building. A staircase leads to a 30-square-meter interior loft where the second bedroom is located, which also has its own outdoor space with an open view.
At the front part of the 400-square-meter plot, set back from the street frontage, is the main residence with a total area of 125 square meters. On the 85-square-meter ground floor, the living areas, utility spaces, and two bedrooms are situated. The staircase leads to a 64-square-meter basement and to an upper level with a large bedroom and a 40-square-meter bathroom, with access to two outdoor areas.
The external seating areas are designed as an extension of the interior spaces to ensure a harmonious interaction between them. This applies to both the living room and kitchen of the main residence. The functions extend towards the outdoor space through features such as built-in benches, pergolas, a pool, wooden decks, and various forms of greenery. These elements work together with the building to provide the desired privacy between the two residences and blend harmoniously into the natural landscape.
